Walt Disney World News • October 2, 2026

Okay, October is here — and Disney gave us quite a bit to talk about this week.

Walt Disney World just turned 55, Hurly-Burly finally opened at the BoardWalk, four more Food & Wine marketplaces are joining the festival, and The Diamond Horseshoe is getting ready to try something completely different.

And then Disney decided to give us a much better look inside Disney's Lakeshore Lodge right before reservations begin next week.

So grab your coffee, because there are a few things I definitely want you to know about as October begins.

Walt Disney World Is 55! 🎉

Can you believe it?

Walt Disney World officially turned 55 on October 1.

Magic Kingdom opened its gates for the first time on October 1, 1971, along with Disney's Contemporary Resort and Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. And while this anniversary isn't being treated like the huge resort-wide 50th celebration, it still feels pretty special.

Disney says more than 70 new or refreshed experiences have opened across Walt Disney World just since the 50th anniversary in 2021. When you stop and think about everything that's changed in only five years, that's kind of wild.

There's also a new 55th anniversary merchandise collection with apparel, ears, a Mickey plush, drinkware and more. You'll find it at the Emporium in Magic Kingdom and Creations Shop at EPCOT while supplies last, with select merchandise also planned for Disney Store.

If you're visiting right now, keep an eye out for those little 55th touches. It may not be a giant anniversary celebration, but 55 years of Walt Disney World is absolutely worth celebrating.

Hurly-Burly Is Finally Open at Disney's BoardWalk

Okay, this one looks like fun.

Hurly-Burly officially opened October 1 at Disney's BoardWalk, and what I like about this one is that it doesn't have to become another big, planned-out dining experience.

The walk-up window opens at 11 AM, and Hurly-Burly itself begins welcoming guests at 4 PM.

So here's something to keep in the back of your mind on an EPCOT day: the BoardWalk is just a quick walk out of EPCOT's International Gateway. If everybody needs a little change of scenery, you can slip over to the BoardWalk, grab something, hang out for a while and head back into EPCOT when you're ready.

Hurly-Burly has Italian-American-inspired small bites, classic boardwalk-style food, specialty drinks, trivia, games and other entertainment. Even better for those of us who don't want every minute of vacation tied to a reservation: it's walk-up only. No dining reservation required.

Just keep an eye on the clock if you have the kids with you. The afternoon and early evening are family-friendly, but beginning at 9 PM, Hurly-Burly switches over to live music for guests 21 and older.

I can see this being a really easy little escape on an EPCOT day — especially when everyone needs a break without actually going all the way back to the resort.

Four More Food & Wine Marketplaces Open October 2

If you're going to EPCOT this month, you just got four more places to eat your way around the festival.

Beginning October 2, four additional Global Marketplaces join the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival:

And yes, The Alps means warm raclette cheese is back.

I'm not going to turn this into a giant Foodie Guide — because we'd be here all day — but the important part for October visitors is simple: the festival you see this month has more choices than guests had when Food & Wine first opened in August.

So if you've already been looking at menus and making your must-try list, take another look before your trip.

The 2026 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival continues through November 21.

The Diamond Horseshoe Tries Something New October 4

Exterior of The Diamond Horseshoe in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom.

This is another one I'm really curious to see in person.

Beginning October 4, The Diamond Horseshoe in Magic Kingdom is getting a limited-time pop-up dining experience with shareable Frontier-inspired food and drinks — and reservations are now open.

And this is one I wouldn't wait until your park day to think about. Disney highly recommends reservations, so if this is on your must-try list, I'd check availability ahead of time.

The menu includes things like Sweet Golden Corn Fritters, Queso Fundido with Barbecue Burnt Ends, Caramel Root Beer with Sweet Cream and Orange Cream Soda.

Party-night planning note: Disney has confirmed that The Diamond Horseshoe Pop-Up will not be available during Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, but it will be available during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. That gives us a little more perspective on Disney calling this “limited-time.” We still don't have a firm closing date, but we do know it's expected to continue into the Christmas-party season.

And if you're planning a party-only Magic Kingdom visit, pay close attention to your reservation time and admission. Having a dining reservation doesn't automatically give you access to Magic Kingdom before your party ticket allows you to enter.

Honestly, I'm just glad to see Disney trying something different with this space. And since we don't know exactly how long this pop-up will last, if the menu sounds good to you, I'd put it on the list while we know it's here.

Passholders — There's a New Renewal Magnet Coming Your Way

Mickey Mouse Walt Disney World Annual Passholder renewal magnet introduced in 2026.

Okay, Annual Passholders, here's a little something to watch the mailbox for.

Disney has updated its Passholder magnet program so Passholders receive a special magnet not only when joining the program, but also after renewing their Annual Pass.

For renewing Passholders, Disney says the magnet should arrive within about six weeks of your pass anniversary date.

One thing worth doing now: make sure the mailing address connected to your MyDisney account is correct. Disney also says that when Passholders in the same household share the same start or anniversary date, mailed magnets are limited to two per household.

It's certainly not the reason anyone renews an Annual Pass 😂 — but it's a fun little extra.

And if you've renewed recently, now you know not to accidentally toss that Disney envelope into the junk-mail pile.

The Turf Club Is Back at Saratoga Springs

Here's a smaller update, but one that's good to know if you're staying around Saratoga Springs or Disney Springs.

The Turf Club Bar and Grill reopened September 30 at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa after its temporary closure, and it came back with an updated menu.

The restaurant overlooks the golf course, Lake Buena Vista and Disney Springs, and the refreshed menu mixes comfort-food favorites with new and updated dishes.

Would I rearrange an entire Disney vacation around this reopening? Probably not.

But if you're staying at Saratoga Springs, spending the evening around Disney Springs, or just want something a little quieter than another theme-park meal, it's nice to have this option back.

Disney Is Testing a New Way to Plan Your Vacation

Disney World Guided Search beta interface allowing a family to describe its vacation-planning needs.

Now this one caught my attention.

Some guests are starting to see a new “Guided Search — BETA” option on the Walt Disney World website.

Instead of making you know exactly what resort and dates you want before you begin searching, the new experience is designed to let you be more flexible. Guests in the test can describe the kind of vacation they're looking for, compare resorts, explore dates and pricing, ask planning questions and look for options that fit their trip.

But here's the important part: You may not have it.

This is still a limited beta test. Current reporting indicates Disney is testing it with a small, randomly selected group of signed-in guests in the United States and Canada.

So if you log into Disney's website and can't find Guided Search anywhere, you're not missing something obvious. You may simply not be part of the beta yet.

I'm interested to see where Disney goes with this, because planning a Walt Disney World vacation can get overwhelming very quickly. Anything that actually makes comparing resorts, dates and offers easier could be useful.

For now, though, I'd treat it as something to watch, not something to depend on. It's still a test, and important details like prices, availability and reservation requirements are always worth double-checking.

And Then Disney Gave Us a Much Better Look at Lakeshore Lodge 👀

This was the late addition to our news this week — and it's probably the one I'd put on your radar if you're even thinking about a 2027 trip.

Disney just shared new concept art and details for Disney's Lakeshore Lodge, the new resort being built along Bay Lake.

We already knew the resort was coming. Now we're getting a much better idea of what it's actually going to feel like inside.

And the timing matters because reservations begin next week.

The resort itself is scheduled to open July 1, 2027, with approximately 967 rooms ranging from studios to larger villas and Lake Houses.

And now we're getting our first really good look inside.

Disney says the grand lobby will have huge floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the natural surroundings, but the detail that really caught my attention is on the floor: a shimmering fiber-optic river inspired by the music and storytelling of Pocahontas. It will flow around a custom bronze centerpiece created by Walt Disney Imagineering.

Above it will be the previously announced Colors of the Wind blown-glass installation, made from hundreds of suspended glass leaves.

Then just beyond the lobby will be Branch & Brush, a lounge overlooking Bay Lake.

Disney says the space is inspired by the changing seasons, with natural textures, artwork and a color-changing chandelier representing all four seasons. The lounge will also serve handcrafted cocktails.

This is where Lakeshore Lodge is starting to get interesting to me.

Concept art is concept art — and the resort is still under construction — so we'll have to wait and see how all of this translates into the finished space. But if you're considering Walt Disney World in 2027, you don't have to wait long for the next big step.

Bookings start next week.

That's Quite a Start to October

And we're only a couple of days in. 😂

Some of this week's updates are just fun — Walt Disney World turning 55 and a new Passholder magnet showing up in the mail.

Others could actually change your plans. If you're at EPCOT this month, you have four more Food & Wine marketplaces. If you're staying near the BoardWalk, you've got a new place to try. And if Lakeshore Lodge is on your 2027 wish list, next week's booking dates definitely belong on your calendar.

That's really what we want these weekly updates to do.

You don't need every Disney announcement that crosses the internet. You just need to know what changed, what looks fun, and what might actually matter for your family's trip.

We'll keep sorting through the Disney news and bringing you the things worth knowing.
